Why the wear layer in luxury vinyl flooring is important

Why the wear layer in luxury vinyl flooring is important

Four layers combine to create tough, versatile, and durable luxury vinyl flooring (LVF). It's highly likely that, regardless of your application, this floor covering will meet your needs.

Family-owned KC Floorworx in Independence, MO, brings a large assortment of high-quality luxury vinyl flooring styles to the Kansas City area.

Wear layer

Since the wear layer protects the patterned design, wood, stone, concrete, or ceramic image layer, it determines how long your new floor will last.

In other words, once this transparent surface layer is worn down, it is time for your luxury vinyl plank or tile floor to be replaced. Of course, a plank or tile with a thick wear layer is more costly, but it is well worth the investment.

Lifespan

Wear layers 6mils or 12mils thick are available, but floor lifespan is most extended when you choose a 20-mil LVP or LVT brand.

This thick wear layer protects the floor from stains, scuffs, and scratches, so your luxury vinyl flooring will appear like-new for many years. In addition, some companies place a coating on top of the wear layer, offering more protection.

Durability

You also get a 'bonus' when you invest in high-quality waterproof vinyl flooring because these superior planks and tiles are waterproof.

This water repelling feature, of course, can potentially extend your floor's life, mainly if an appliance malfunctions or some other water or moisture-producing event occurs. In addition, this waterproof flooring even tolerates standing water.
